How to get more clear on your future direction

Last Saturday I enjoyed giving a workshop about 'successful profiling' to international students in Amsterdam West. These students are the future and it is great to see how eager they are to learn and desire to put out something great in this world.

Do students even think about the future?

Yes, they do! But usually not in an effective way. The reason for this is high school nor college teaches us how to make the right choice of study. We aren't taught to ask the right questions. That is why not only students, but also many of us who have progressed further in their careers experience not having their direction clear.

How I helped the students with getting more clear on their future direction

Most students did not even know what kind of future they aspire to have. Getting clear on your future is often done by focusing on the end result, but the biggest time will be spent on how to reach that end result. That is why I focused on answering the question 'why' do you want to reach that end result and what kind of experiences do you want to have to get there? This gives more clarity on the reason of the things you do or desire to do. It was great to see that my workshop gave them more clarity on their future direction.

How a clear direction helps with profiling yourself successfully

Getting more clear on your future direction makes it easier to communicate your profile. It gives you a sense of trust that you know where you're going. It also makes it easier to take the right steps in this direction. Pitching their own profile, with being clear about their core values and future direction, felt much more natural for the students. Using this way of profiling can be used by anyone: students, freelancers, managers, ceo's, entrepreneurs, etc. It does not matter in which phase of life you are, the sooner the better you can enjoy what you do.
